A peaceful stretch of coastline turned into a midnight disaster zone when a vehicle careened off a seaside cliff in Santa Cruz, killing a university student.
It was 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026. A vehicle traveling along the iconic West Cliff Drive suddenly veered off the asphalt near Steamers Lane, just east of the Abbott Memorial Lighthouse. The car smashed through a metal fence, flattened a garbage container, and launched straight down into the dark Pacific Ocean.
