A sudden glacier collapse near the Tibet border triggered a monstrous torrent of ice, rock, and mud that slammed into Nepal’s Himalayan river systems. The disaster left hundreds dead and thousands missing, but one of the most terrifying battles unfolded underground.
Over a hundred workers found themselves cut off inside the dark, mud-choked tunnels of the Trishuli 3A hydropower project in the Rasuwa district. Military helicopters rushed to the site, fighting treacherous weather conditions and unstable terrain just to locate the buried entry points.
